The children in my Year 2 classroom loved to learn outside of the classroom - even if it was just out in the playground or in someone else's classroom. They loved hands on activities where they could make their own learning and ask their own questions. As soon as children knew where and how to access information, they would enthusiastically and independently go off in search of answers. They also loved to share their learning with other children so they became the experts.
Pilot' lateral Learning Across schools@ Rural and Roses - Te Awamutu
On 23rd September our cluster ran a 'pilot' lateral Learning Across schools sharing with just the 'town' schools comprising of Te Awamutu Primary, Kihikihi School and St Patrick's. Four groups gathered - students, parents (all mums!), teachers and leaders - shared their thoughts over a yummy lunch, just for an our or so. All groups reflected on : 1. Sharing the students learning maps. 2. Identifying what's the same and different about our perceptions about learning. 3. What could be some priorities for change regarding learning 4. What could help with this and how could learning environments impact on this.
The teachers and our classmates help us to learn new things and encourage us. Experience outside the classroom, like camps and trips give us real life experiences so we learn new things. These prepare us for our life ahead. Classmates can ask us questions to help us understand what we are learning about. Even on the mat when we are in a big group its not just the teacher, teaching us but its ideas put together by our classmates that help us to learn.
